About Dr. Amit Javed

Dr. Amit Javed is an expert Gastrointestinal, Gastrointestinal Cancer, and Bariatric/Weight loss surgeon with over 25 years of experience. He has trained at the premier medical institutes of India and abroad. He did his MBBS from Kasturba Medical College, Manipal; M.S General Surgery and Senior Residency from Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh; and M.Ch Gastrointestinal Surgery from All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi. He is ECFMG certified and was awarded the FACS degree by the American College of Surgeons in San Francisco, California, USA. He has been a Faculty at the Department of G.I Surgery at GB Pant Institute of Post Graduate Medical Education and Research, New Delhi, and has trained many G.I Surgeons in the country. He has worked as an Assistant Professor at the Department of Abdominal Transplant Surgery at the most prestigious University of California, San Francisco (UCSF), USA wherein he was involved in liver, pancreas, and kidney transplants and also at the thoracic division of the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Centre (MSKCC), New York, USA. Dr. Javed has Headed the Department of GI Surgery, GI Oncosurgery, and Bariatric Surgery at Fortis Hospital Shalimar Bagh, Fortis Hospital Vasant Kunj, and CK Birla Hospital, New Delhi. Dr. Javed is an avid researcher and has contributed more than 50 articles in various international and national journals and textbooks. He has also described various innovative surgical techniques which have been published. He has been an invited faculty at various international and national meetings. He has vast experience in performing surgeries for complex gastrointestinal and hepatobiliary diseases, cancers, and bariatric/weight loss surgeries, performing more than 1,000 surgeries each year. He is especially skilled in minimally invasive/laparoscopic surgeries and has been a mentor to many budding surgeons. Despite his several accomplishments he is unassuming, humble, modest, and goes the distance to take care of each and every one of his patients

Dr. Javed has received several accolades for his contributions to surgical gastroenterology: Best Oral Paper Award (2012): For his presentation on the laparoscopic management of corrosive esophageal strictures using colonic and gastric conduits at the Annual Conference of the Indian Association of Surgical Gastroenterology in Bangalore. First Prize, E-video Session (2012): For a video on laparoscopic radical cholecystectomy for gallbladder cancer at the same conference. Second Prize, Poster Session (2012): For a poster on the management of gallbladder cancer impacted by coexistent tuberculosis. Best Poster Award (2011): For his work on the surgical management and outcomes of severe gastrointestinal injuries due to corrosive ingestion at the Annual Conference of the Indian Association of Surgical Gastroenterology in Jaipur. Special Mention Video (2011): For a video on laparoscopic gastric bypass for corrosive esophageal stricture at the same conference.
